Global supply chain leader recognized for commitment to corporate social responsibility
ALOM, a global leader in supply chain management, has been selected for the eighth consecutive year as one of The Bay Area News Group’s Top 100 Workplaces. The honor, based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party researcher, recognizes the company’s commitment to staff safety, job security and flexibility throughout the pandemic. The company was also rated very highly by staff for its demonstrated engagement in environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility initiatives including diversity and community philanthropy.
The anonymous survey, conducted by Energage, LLC, measured 15 culture drivers that are critical to the success of any organization: including alignment, execution, and connection.

Today, I believe ALOM is at its strongest position in our company history as being the leading employer of choice I always envisioned we would be,” said ALOM president and CEO Hannah Kain, who founded the company nearly 25 years ago that today delivers comprehensive, technology-driven supply chain solutions for Fortune 500s including medical solution providers, automakers, tech companies, life science leaders and consumer brands. “Companies experience a talent crisis, and it is a significant competitive advantage, being able to attract and retain top-notch employees. It is also more gratifying to lead a company where employees enjoy their work and the work environment,” she added.
The average staff tenure at ALOM exceeds seven years, and the company is currently expanding its global Bay Area headquarters and Midwestern hub in Indianapolis with career opportunities across its technology, operations, and account management teams. Over the past 12-month period, ALOM North America staffing has increased 56%.
A key element of ALOM’s cultural success is its purposeful alignment of business strategies and investments with employee priorities such as medical safety, environmental sustainability, diversity and inclusion:
- Medical safety: As an ISO 13485 and FDA registered company, ALOM continues to meet the highest standards of safety and utilize its medical supply chain expertise during the changing conditions of the pandemic.
For the last 17 months, ALOM has supported its staff, their families, and the community by rapidly instituting 48 aggressive workplace safety protocols including daily issuance of PPE and installing production station worker divider screens. Placing lives over profit, ALOM did not lay off or furlough a single worker as a result of COVID-19 impacts.
This year, as vaccines became available, ALOM conducted two on-site staff vaccination clinics with more already planned.
- The environment: ALOM’s ISO 14001 certification for international environmental standards, achieved in May 2020, was followed this March with its NetZero Supply Chain sustainability initiative that committed to a net zero carbon footprint across all supply chain operations by 2030.
ALOM’s Engage to Save program rewards employees for ideas on how to lower environmental impacts across the company. These have resulted in expansive company GHG emission reduction programs such as switching to electric power generated from only renewable sources.
- Diversity and inclusion: As a WBENC-Certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE), ALOM was founded on the principle that each employee can contribute meaningfully to the company’s success because its workplace supports them in reaching their full potential. Today, women comprise 59% of its national workforce. ALOM’s DEI efforts have been recognized, and ALOM is a Paradigm for Parity member and is a supporter of DEI advocacy.
To fill an emerging talent gap and promote supply chain and manufacturing as a good paying and rewarding career choice for students and young professionals, ALOM conducted virtual National Manufacturing Day open house tours to student groups interested in supply chain as a career destination.
- Pandemic extraordinary measures. From grants to employees to support pandemic home schooling of children to exercise videos and team-building, ALOM went the extra mile to support its staff members. In return, ALOM maintained a 92% rate of staff retention during the pandemic.
Additionally, ALOM has fulfilled employees’ goals for their community, increasing charitable contributions to Bay Area food banks and homeless shelters to serve at risk populations most severely impacted by pandemic economic hardship.
