ALOM, a global leader in supply chain management, has been selected for the seventh consecutive year as one of The Bay Area NewsGroup’s Top 100 Workplaces. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by research partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey measures several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection.
This year the recognition coincides with a reengineering of ALOM’s workforce and aggressive workplace protective strategies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. ALOM was designated as an essential supply chain business as defined by the 6 Bay Area county Shelter In Place order in March, and was able to continue operations in compliance with county workplace and workforce protection requirements to stop the spread of the virus.
“This year above all others, ALOM is profoundly grateful to our extraordinary staff who achieved 100% on-time shipping amidst much supply and transportation disruption. Our on-site warehouse and production workers – as well as our remote operations staff – tirelessly delivered on clients’ existing orders and launched new programs such as desperately needed COVID-19 test kits, medical-grade air filtration equipment and PPE,” said Hannah Kain, President and CEO of ALOM.
To respond to the pandemic and protect its employees, ALOM immediately formed an executive COVID-19 task force that meets daily to monitor status and ensure protective measures are enacted and followed. The company extended personal leave and sick time policies to all staff requiring additional time off. No staff were laid off or furloughed at any time during the slowdown.
“Our priority has been to put our people – and our communities – first during the pandemic. As an ISO 13485 and FDA registered company, we are certified to meet the highest standards of safety and wanted to be part of the solution by fully utilizing our medical supply chain expertise. We continue to monitor and improve our on-site protective measures, guided by our task force and the county health requirements,” said ALOM Director of Human Resources, Claire Mendonca.
The Bay Area News Group’s Top 100 Workplaces recognizes many areas in which a company is attuned to its employees’ interests such as diversity and inclusion and protecting the environment.
ALOM’s commitment to diversity and inclusion goes hand in hand with cultivating energetic teams that work collaboratively. “As a woman-owned company, ALOM was founded on the principles of enabling each employee to contribute meaningfully to our company’s success and helping elevate and support each employee to reach their full potential,” Mendonca added.
Examples of ALOM’s environmental initiatives related to the workplace and employee interests:
“Top Workplaces is more than just recognition,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage. “Our research shows organizations that earn the award attract better talent, experience lower turnover, and are better equipped to deliver bottom-line results. Their leaders prioritize and carefully craft a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement.”
More on ALOM’s COVID-19 initiatives:
As a testament to ALOM staff dedication and expertise, ALOM on-boarded two separate Covid-19 test kit production and distribution programs in a record time of under 10 days from ‘virtual’ handshake to 1st order shipment. For another COVID-19 client response program, ALOM globally traced and re-routed inventory of an air filtration device that could be re-configured with medical-grade filtration packs that can remove virus particulates from the air. The reconfigured air filtration equipment was then rapidly distributed to healthcare facilities across the country and around the world.
As the workers of ALOM’s clients returned to work on-premise, their safety became a priority. ALOM procured and produced PPE materials including face masks, hand sanitizer, gloves and foot coverings to facilitate worker safety, prioritizing local and diverse suppliers.
