ALOM CEO Hannah Kain to receive STEP Ahead Award by Manufacturing Institute

Hannah Kain, President and CEO of ALOM, a global leader in supply chain management, will receive the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award bestowed by The Manufacturing Institute on March 26th in Washington, DC. The award honors women who have made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole.

“ALOM sees firsthand the diversity issues affecting the industry,” said Kain, whose staff designs and executes supply chains from 16 locations globally where diverse backgrounds are crucial to flawless execution. “Today’s supply chain environment requires collaboration, multitasking, and attention to detail. These are qualities where women traditionally excel, and I see it as a personal mission to open the eyes of more women to the exciting world of supply chain and manufacturing.”

“Hannah Kain represents the face of exciting careers available in manufacturing,” said Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute. The STEP Awards are part of a larger STEP Ahead initiative, launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry that focuses on the attraction, advancement, and retention of high potential female talent. Awardees come from all levels of the manufacturing industry, from the factory-floor to the C-suite.

A recent study by Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of U.S. manufacturing companies report a moderate to severe shortage of qualified applicants for skilled and highly skilled production positions.

STEP Ahead is designed to help improve the retention of existing female talent and highlight role models that can help raise awareness about careers for women in manufacturing.

Kain is a Board member of the National Association of Manufacturers, the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and Watermark. She is former Chair of the Silicon Valley Board for the Women’s Initiative. She is a member of the exclusive invitation-only Committee of 200 (C200) for executive women.  She has received numerous awards including the WBENC Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Star Award in 2012 and Watermark’s Women Who Have Made Their Mark Award in 2011.

She co-founded 2020vet, a certified disabled veteran business, with Erica Courtney in 2014.

Under Kain’s leadership, ALOM actively supports diversity in the workplace and community. ALOM works with a large network of certified diversity organization suppliers including women, minority, and veteran owned businesses. ALOM has been recognized with numerous diversity and supply chain excellence awards; most recently receiving the 2014 NWBOC Eclipse Award for supplier diversity and the 2014 Green Supply Chain Award from Supply and Demand Chain Executive Magazine.
