ALOM Named 2020 Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award Winner for 7th Consecutive Year

December 9, 2020

ALOM recognized for long-term commitment and expansion of environmental and sustainability supply chain practices

ALOM, a global leader in supply chain management, has been awarded the Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award for 2020. This is the seventh consecutive year that ALOM has received this distinction for making sustainability a core part of its supply chain strategy.

“There is no time to waste. Having a net zero carbon footprint across our supply chain operations is a goal we are committed to achieve. Our clients represent leading and respected global companies who will only trust their brand to suppliers demonstrating the highest levels of corporate and environmental responsibility. We are committed to fulfilling their trust and upholding their reputations by being the best environmental stewards we can be,” said Hannah Kain, President and CEO of ALOM.

Meeting stringent, internationally established environmental management standards across its operations, ALOM holds ISO 14001 certification at both its Fremont, CA, and Indianapolis, IN, production and fulfillment facilities. “Each year we challenge ourselves to exceed our past accomplishments in sustainability and environmental management metrics in areas such as responsible material sourcing, carbon reduction, operational efficiency, supply chain planning, recycling and use of sustainable materials,” added Kaveh Moraghebi, Sr. Director of Quality and Sustainability.

A significant area of positive environmental impact for ALOM is a continuing focus on automated order routing and nearshoring operations to reduce delivery times and shorten the number of miles materials are in transit – both from suppliers and to the end-user. The investment ALOM made over the past 12-36 months in expanding its U.S. operations and building an increased domestic supply base positioned the company for greater agility and continued 100% on-time shipping during first months of the COVID-19 pandemic by relying less on offshore imported goods.

Due to its reputation and expertise sourcing and supplying energy-efficient materials, ALOM is the second largest supplier of ENERGY STAR rated LED light bulbs and fixtures in the state of California totaling approximately 350,000 LED bulbs annually. The energy savings represented by this product alone will lower energy consumption and generation demand by 101,250,000 kWh each year and an annual CO2 greenhouse gas emission reduction of 101,250,000 pounds.

ALOM’s staff is equally dedicated to the company’s sustainability pledge. ALOM has virtually eliminated the use of single-use plastic water bottles at its facilities and replaced with filtered water dispensers across campuses. This single measure is keeping 15,000 water bottles out of landfill and oceans each year. For nearly four years, ALOM has actively supported a tree planting and global reforestation program that offsets 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Bestowed by SDCE, the only magazine in the supply chain industry covering the entire global supply chain, the Green Supply Chain Award recognizes companies making green or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. The award also recognizes providers of supply chain solutions and services assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.

“This year’s 13th-annual award recognizes small, mid-size and large enterprises that leveraged green practices and solutions to further drive sustainable improvements in their supply chain,” says Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics. “From software solutions to transportation management systems to several other initiatives designed to reduce carbon footprint and improve the re-use of materials, sustainability continues to rank as a key component to a stronger, safer and more efficient supply chain.”
