ALOM, a global leader in sustainable supply chain management, has been selected to receive the Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Award for 2017. This is the fourth consecutive year that ALOM has been honored with this award.
ALOM is being recognized for enabling a gas and electric utility company to make energy-efficient materials available to its low-income residents. By procuring specialized energy efficient materials in high volumes, ALOM supplied materials to upgrade 90,000 residences, replacing inefficient, energy-wasting residential lighting, insulation, hot water, appliance, and HVAC materials with high-efficiency, energy saving products at no cost to the individual resident. This in turn lowered energy bills and helped the utility ensure health and comfort for its customers, while adhering to its sustainability and cost-reduction goals.
“The ALOM supplied materials program demonstrates our collective best in procurement, inventory control, system development, e-commerce, and sustainable supply chain management expertise. But most importantly it demonstrates our ability to fully engineer turnkey solutions that achieve our clients’ goals in a cost-efficient, environmentally responsible manner. For example, ALOM will provide over 700,000 LED bulbs by year end as just one part of a cleaner, safer home environment,” said Hannah Kain, President and CEO of ALOM.
LED lighting alone has a significant energy saving impact. ALOM worked closely with lighting manufacturers to pioneer LED bulbs custom made for the program to ensure maximum energy efficiency and early adoption. Each year ALOM supplied LED lighting will save approximately 175 million kilowatt hours of energy over standard incandescent lighting. ALOM technology also enabled efficiencies and cost savings throughout the procurement and delivery process, including the development of a paperless online portal for receiving and fulfilling contractor material orders and reducing transportation needs.
The Green Award, now in its 10th year, recognizes companies making green or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy, that are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. The awards also recognize providers of supply chain solutions and services assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.
This year’s awards recognize small, mid-size and large enterprises that leveraged green practices and solutions to further drive sustainable improvements in their supply chain.
“ALOM demonstrates that corporate social responsibility is a business imperative that transcends the company and extends throughout the supply chain, involving suppliers and customers,” says John R. Yuva, editor for Supply & Demand Chain Executive. “Awardees such as ALOM demonstrate how critical sustainability initiatives are within companies. It serves as a role model for supply chains globally to expand their CSR reach and impact.”
